Repurposing/Upcycling

As booklovers, Wonder Book believes that books are not made to be disposed of—they are made to be read, collected, shared, and displayed.

We strive to find a home for every book, and we repurpose around 1.5 million pounds of books each year by selling them in our three retail stores, on Amazon and other websites, and through our Books by the Foot service. We globally export 100,000+ books each year. Each time we match a book with a buyer, we consider it a victory.

Donations/Freecycling

Wonder Book donates books in bulk to various global charities, schools, and enterprises like ABC’s “Extreme Makeover” because we love matching books with people, especially those who would not otherwise have books.

We also gives back to the community with food drives throughout the year at our retail locations. We encourage customers to donate by offering canned food coupons, where customers bring in a can of food with their coupon to receive the discount. Since we started our food drive, we have collected over 300,000 cans of food for local food banks.

Recycling

For the few books we cannot sell or donate, we physically recycle them. We recycle around 500,000 pounds of paper, cardboard, plastic, and cans each year. Nearly all of our shelving has been reclaimed from libraries and other booksellers.
